It is BASKETBALL SEASON!! This season SCRI will provide opportunities for all interested girls and boys in grades K- 5. The program is designed to offer something for EVERYONE – players of all skill and experience levels are encouraged to sign up. The purpose is to have fun and begin developing proper basketball fundamentals for all players while also offering more competitive options. Please read below for a brief description of program offerings.
LEVELS OF PARTICIPATION
· K-1 – All students in Kindergarten and First Grade participate in a co-ed league that runs from the week of Oct. 28 to late December. The program stresses fundamental skills and the rules of the sport in a fun environment. Typical weeks will feature two events, one weekday practice and either a weekend practice or game, hosted at Sheridan Elementary School. All participants will receive a program t-shirt
· Fall Session – Boys in grades 2-5 will be divided by grade level into teams that will participate in a Rec Plus League offered by the Pacers Athletic Center at Grand Park*. This program replaces the previous in-house option and is designed for players of all skill levels. The season will run from the week of October 28 through late December. There will typically be one weekday practice hosted at a Sheridan Schools’ facility and one game played on Sunday at a PAC facility. This program is designed for players of all skill levels. Girls in grades 2-5 will play in a rec league hosted by Clinton Prairie. Unfortunately, the PAC does not offer a Rec Plus Option for Girls’ teams, however this is a league that SCRI has participated in before with success.
· Winter Session – Boys and girls in grades 2-5 will also have the option to participate in a winter league offered through the Pacers Athletic Center*. This session is designed to be more competitive and participation will be limited to a maximum of 10 players per age group and based upon player evaluations during the Fall Session if more than 10 players register in a grade. Participation in the Fall Session is required to participate in the Winter Session. Practice for this league will begin in November with one practice per week and increase to two weekly practices after Christmas. Games will take place on weekends during Jan. and Feb.
*For participants in grades 2-5, games at Grand Park facilities charge an admission fee.
